Sony wants to bring PlayStation to “all devices”

We recently learned that Sony is planning to stream PS3 games to the PS4 and PS Vita TV, but apparently that was just the tip of the iceberg.

According to Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, there are plans to bring PlayStation titles “to all devices”. Yoshida named PC, TVs, Blu-ray players, smartphones, and tablets specifically.

He told Dengeki Online:

Speaking of the ultimate goal, we would like to deliver PlayStation games to all devices. So we’re considering various things like PC, TVs, Blu-ray players, smartphones and tablets. We hope to continue to expand not only to Sony devices, but even to devices other than Sony’s. This is still being studied.

We previously spoke about PlayStation going from hardware to something closer to a service, regardless of the device — Of course PlayStation will still be the center, but I think we would like to expand to different things.

It’s an incredibly ambitious vision, if Sony could expand PlayStation to the extent that you could play Uncharted or Little Big Planet through almost any device it could propel PlayStation to a whole new level. Start a mission on your PC, then pick it back up on your TV or tablet etc. There are some really awesome possibilities if this becomes a reality. It almost seems like Sony’s answer to Microsoft’s SmartGlass, except with even more capabilities.

Could this be a potential game-changer for PlayStation? Share your thoughts below in the comments!
