With the Black Ops 3 reveal just 6 days away, the game’s viral teaser campaign is drawing to a close as we head to the point of understanding what exactly the game will feature. The next few teasers have appeared via Snapchat and Twitter, and as always, you can check out a round-up of the teasers below complete with some speculation and thoughts from us.

This latest teaser clip from the Snapchat account mainly revolves around an ongoing surgery procedure. This isn’t particularly groundbreaking since we’ve already seen a lot of hospital-related stuff going on recently, but it does again emphasis the key point of humans being operated on. Some form of mind control has been speculated a lot, but these clips just further show that the ‘project’ includes some sort of physical changes to the human body and not just a phychiarist getting into the head of a patient through mental exercises. Throughout this clip, we can mainly make out doctors operating on a patient, a heart rate monitor, and other hospital-specific equipment such as drips. We’re also again treated to the appearance of an eye, something that has appeared many times. This campaign has heavily teased the use of technology to enhance humans, so it would not surprise me if the eye symbolizes one of the many body organs that they are looking to improve. Whether a robotic eye or an implant (as hinted by Treyarch on Facebook), it seems likely that Black Ops 3 will feature some some of enhancements like these. I find one of the frames following the eye quite interesting. It has a mainly blue colour and a strange border outline, and my immediate thought that it was an eye/iris scan of some sort, but I could be completely wrong. Towards the end of the clip we again see a patient in duress as shown in a previous clip.
Dr Salim’s quote: “Day 42: Only four of the original test subjects survived. Of the others, most died of coronary failure.” Carrying on from the previous clips, Salim continues to present to us the tests of the trials conducted for the project. Evidently the whole project or this particular stage of the project is into the 42nd day. We don’t know how many patients have been tested/experimented on, but only four have survived the original test. Given that the project is seemingly still in the early stages, its no surprise that there are problems during the first few tests. However, the fact that patients have died is a big thing to take away from this. Did the patients know what they were getting into or were they forced? Were they perfectly healthy or did they suffer with serious problems which made them viable candidates for a life threatening experiment? We also have to question the doctor’s views over this. Does he have remorse or is Salim a cruel person who values his work over human life? Interestingly, one of the main problems caused appears to be coronary failure. This type of failure happens when the heart isn’t receiving enough blood because a coronary artery is blocked. Smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure can all lead to coronary failure, but this scenario seems to be as a result of surgery. It’s interesting that four have beat the odds and survived. What will happen to them now? What will happen to the dead bodies?

Again, this clip is mainly just footage of an operation procedure. In the background we can clearly see doctors working on a patient. In the foreground, however, is an interesting pattern. At first thought it looked like blood, but what relevance does it have when we already know there’s clearly a surgery procedure going on? It also moves downwards in a fashion that makes it not look like liquid. Is it just for show? Does it indicate blood on a glass surface or blood being transported into a container?
Dr Salim’s quote: “One died later from self-inflicted wounds.” At the beginning of the clip there seems to be either a crow cawing (crows has popped up previously) or a human screaming (likely a patient in discomfort). So from this quote it appears that at least one patient has died from his own accord, which could be interpreted in many ways. First of all, it might be that the patient was in too much agony or was being kept against his own will so he killed himself. It could also be that whatever has happened to him, be it mind control, robotic surgery or implants, he wasn’t in control of his own actions and accidentally killed himself.

The new mysterious The Unmarked Man account on Twitter has also posted a new update. The update also coincided with a new Message of the Day update on Black Ops 2 which featured the message “Listen to the sound of my voice…” along with a new image. The Unmarked Man page also has a new cover photo similar to the one featured in Black Ops 2’s latest message.
If we look at the above tweet first, this is a clear direct reference to the aforementioned quote featured in the Black Ops 2 message and it’s also been spoken by Dr. Salim in previous clips. From this tweet, I speculate that The Unmarked Man is standing up to Salim by refusing to obey his command. Is he perhaps a former patient of Salim’s who escaped or had enough strength to not be affected by treatment? If we think of the mind control theory, then it would perhaps relate to have someone with the strength to fight against whatever procedures are used to control the mind. It could also perhaps be that he’s another character like Salim, looking at ways to enhance humans.
If we look at the two new images, they are both very similar. Both show a brain, however, the Black Ops 2 image includes some writing and what appears to be a hash symbol. The Twitter cover image instead shows what appears to be morse and QR codes. Eagle-eyed members of the community, such as MrDalekJD, have begun deciphering the codes which appear to contain a website link of some sort and the message “Are you read?” It seems like more will be revealed with different updates, so keep checking back to see how that progresses.
