Black Ops ‘Combo Pack’ for Xbox 360 and PS3 spotted on Best Buy and Amazon

A Combo Pack for the first two titles in the Black Ops series may be headed to last-gen, according to new retailer listings.

A few weeks ago, the first indication of a ‘Combo Pack’ appeared when a listing showed up on Amazon. Given that the listing appeared around the same time as the Black Ops 3 teasing began, and taking into account the industry’s current fascination with re-masters, this news got a lot of people excited that the Black Ops series could be receiving the re-mastered treatment on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

However, that doesn’t appear to be the case. A new listing has appeared on Best Buy, which further adds credit to a Combo Pack being released in the near future, expect that this latest listing also includes PlayStation 3 as well as Xbox 360. Although these listings are likely placeholders of some sort and not official confirmation, the omission of Xbox One and PlayStation 4 probably means that the pack will just be available on 360 and PS3. Given the money and time a re-master would still require, particularly with the next title only months away, I’d be more surprised if Activision did go down the re-master route. It’s believed that the pack will include the first two Black Ops games, and the First Strike DLC pack, for a new low price. The listings state a May 1st release date, but this could well be a placeholder.

If this Combo Pack is real, it makes perfect sense for Activision to capitalize on the upcoming Black Ops 3 reveal. At offering a combined package of content for a low price, it’s an ideal opporunity for people to get clued up on the sub-series again before the next saga in the trilogy is released. This would perhaps add further support to Black Ops 3 being available on last-gen consoles, which I think would have been extremely likely anyway.
