Blue microphones have become a common name within different communities like pod-casters, musicians, YouTubers and Live Streamers. This products have been used by popular artists such as B.o.B, Minus The Bear, The Devil Wears Prada, hellogoodbye, and Neon Trees. The unit I reviewed was the Blue “Snowball iCE” Microphone. This is a simple microphone that is a simple plug-in and use, has a built-in pop-screen and a desktop stand to finish it off. These are just some of the basic features that come with this desktop microphone.

One the most important things is performance, some technical specs are:
Transducer Type – Condenser, pressure gradient with USB digital output
Polar Pattern – Cardioid
Sample/Word – 44.1 kHz/16 bit

But for this review I don’t want to just tell you or “reassure you” there’s a difference, so I’ll be showing you a video commentary I did before using my Blue Mic, and after.

Before:

As you can tell I have no pop filter, this voice sound is too loud due to it being from a headset and the quality really ruined the video.

Now you will hear a video that was my first time doing a commentary with the Snowball iCE

The quality is noticeably different, I haven’t perfected my settings for this mic but this is great quality out the box. This performs as if it was an expensive professional grade equipment without the price of one. That’s the next thing about this mic, depending on where you shop, you can easily get this mic for around $60-70 dollars. Which is a great value if you compare some of the other mics offered by other companies.

You can use this mic with the preferred program you are comfortable with. MY program of choice was Audacity, but again this is all up to you and what you are comfortable with. I did wish it came with its own software just to have a universal program for it. This mic works great with other programs such as Skype, Xsplit, etc. The 6ft USB cord is also more than enough for any desk or setup. Even for those that want to use something like their iPad, certain Blue mics work using the Apple’s camera connection kit through a powered USB hub. This gives them more appeal to those that might also want something to use on the go or during travel.

The mic is all around a great product, from the quality of the mic to the user-friendly set-up. There are not a lot or reasons to not get this product if your interested in picking up a quality mic for various reasons. This will be noticed even in the simplest task like Skype calls. People noticed the quality the first day I used it without telling them I was and asked if I changed my mic.
