This year NBA 2K13 had promise to become one the best sports games this year, with hype and additions of ‘MyTeam’ and Exclusively Produced by Jay-Z, they aimed to do this. 2Ksports have been up and down the past current years, with MLB ending in such a bad tone and the weight and face of 2Ksports become NBA 2K they have a lot to overcome. This years addition to new modes, more options and the new Virtual Coin system may lead to an endless amount of replay value.
My Player:
My Player this year seemed to get more of a cosmetic fix than any actual big upgrades. Which isn’t bad, if it’s not broke, why fix it. Seems like they add a bigger amount of content like ads, questions/answers, etc. which gives it a new look without loosing anything the community likes. One the big aspects I liked was the addition to more ‘camps’ and the extra things you can do with your player like street clothes, accessories, etc. One thing I did wish you could do is really influence what team you land on. I totally bombed the questions for Houston to avoid them, even got told it won’t be a good fit and still got drafted by them. Those answers should really influence what happens. I would even welcome the thought of putting the top 3 teams you want to land on and that influencing it to an extent.
NBA 2K: My Life
This is a Facebook based app called NBA 2K: My Life. If you are a complete basketball addict and need your fix here it is.
This app can help tide you over until you return to your man or woman cave. The great thing is that you earn VC for playing this app. You also add VC with the tablet version of NBA 2K13 and MyNBA2K, the free app for iOS, Android and Kindle Fire tablets.
This is great for those that can’t sit around all day and play NBA 2K13 this will add another way to earn VC while away and give you that chance to grow quicker throughout NBA 2K13.
MyTeam:
MyTeam is basically 2K version of Ultimate team from Madden and Fifa, this is a great move from my point of view, the possibilities are endless with team combos. Each player will have their own play style and have their own all-star team to show off. The Road to Playoffs mode keeps it interesting when you face off against other teams and see how others are developing. This can also lead to good possibilities that people will eventually want an auction or some form of trading within the game which would be a great addition next year. Even having a possible Online Association mode with MyTeam would be welcomed.
Online:
Online gameplay this year seems improved from last, more fluid and less lag. Especially on launch day, the servers held up which is a great thing for a sports game on launch day, as usually this is when it will hit one of its highest traffic peaks online. The games I got in with multiple players didn’t seem to lag due to different connections and would hold up and not lag through out the game. Another cool element is the addition of MyPlayer Blacktop. This brings more replay value and the chance to show off your players skills online against others.
Overall:
Seems like 2KSports put in a lot of work in this game, it feels new and refreshed from 2K12. There are the occasional things that have you wondering how that happened, examples are: MyTeam Rookie Exhibition will put you against a few 90+ overall, some random dunks don’t register as points online (See video for online gameplay) happened a few time but seems rare, but other than that it seems like it’s all things that can be fixed with patches and nothing game breaking. All together its a very good game with tons of replay value, if you’re a single player type of guy, MyPlayer is for you, if your competitive, all the online modes may be your thing and if you like managing teams and building there are tons of options there as well. There’s honestly a lot to cover but all in all its a great game for any sports fan or just someone looking for something new. If you haven’t purchased a NBA game in a few years, this is the year to get 2K13. It may very well be the sports game of the year and competing for GOTY.
