NZXT Cryo E40 is a lightweight Notebook Cooler that has a pair of 80mm moveable fans. This being the most important feature and reason for laptop owners to buy this good product. They are not in any fixed position, so you can move them around to give you best cooling performance as every laptop has different fan or hot areas. This is a small cooler and is meant to support notebooks up to 15-inches in size.
The Cryo E40 is a bit of a hybrid for notebook coolers. The removable top is an aluminum mesh, but the base underneath is a glossy black plastic. It is automatically at an angle for a comfortable feel. The two 80mm fans can be placed anywhere along the aluminum mesh cover. The fans are held in place with a simple low-powered magnetic clasp design. This build is also leaves for a light and portable cooler that you can easily travel or carry in a bag.
The magnets versatility is very useful. Other notebook coolers will only let you have air circulation in a certain area, the Cryo doesn’t have this problem as you can move it to get the best possible placement for air and keeping your system cool. Adding to the versatility is the ability to run the USB cable to the left or to the right of the cooler. Some laptops have more USB ports on one side or the other, so this gives you that option.
This can be both a good and bad thing. Sure you can move the USB from left or right side but this will take up that USB port. I felt like maybe a split USB would have been beneficial here to not take up the port as some laptops might be limited on them. Another issue worth noting is that you get no additional features on the Cryo E40. There is no power switch and no fan speed control.
Nonetheless, this cooler works great. Once I started using it I noticed how cool my laptop was. I never really had a bad heating problem but for a few hours of gaming it would warm up. Now, I don’t feel any heat on my laptops surface. There are rubberized grips on the bottom that helps keep the cooler itself above your surface.
At about $30, the NZXT Cryo E40 is very affordable priced as a relatively high quality notebook cooler. Even though it doesn’t have all those extra features this is about performance. It performs great and if loosing a USB isn’t a problem for you this might be the type of cooler you are looking for.
